Hello! This page is for students who are going to come to RELA to take a B2 First preparation course. Congratulations on making a very good decision!
Before you come to RELA it would be a very good idea to practice your Intermediate and Upper Intermediate level grammar. B2 First grammar is tough! So you need to have a very good understanding of the main grammar points at these levels before the course starts. These websites have free grammar (and vocabulary, listening and pronunciation) practice. Spend some time working through the tasks and whenever you find a grammar point that is really difficult for you, look it up on one of the grammar reference websites below*.
New English File Intermediate Plus When you are comfortable with all the grammar points at Intermediate level, try the Upper Intermediate English File website...
The BBC Learning English website has developed some courses which you can take online. The Upper Intermediate one is here and there is also one called Towards Advanced which you could look at if you feel ready...
NOTE: If you have enrolled on a RELA Cambridge B2 First course please let me know if you are having trouble with a grammar point and I will be happy to advise you. A great site for an introduction to the exam and its different parts is Flo-Joe. I especially advise you to do the WORD BANK tasks every day. Learning phrasal verbs and collocations if a HUGE part of preparing for this exam and starting early is essential. Don't worry if you don't do very well at these tasks the first time you try them - you haven't started your training at RELA yet! You will be getting lots of guidance and help from your RELA teachers before you take the exam.
This game is perfect to spend a bit of your free time learning grammar and vocab in a relaxing, fun way. It was designed by Cambridge so the language you learn is very well suited to Cambridge First students. You can also download the game free from the App store or Android store to your phone or tablet.
If you want advice on reading, writing and listening practice before you come to RELA to start your studies, then once you have enrolled, contact me on this wiki or on the RELA email address which you can find here . I will be happy to help you and give you feedback on how you are doing. Many students struggle a little with the ideas behind the use of the passive voice. Check out this online YouTube lesson from Jennifer ESL:
Jennifer ESL is also pretty good at explaining the present perfect simple and continuous (progressive):
You can find many other lessons on Jennifer's YouTube page For those of you who can't remember what all those grammar words like 'noun', 'pronoun' and 'preposition' mean, a review of the parts of speech can be found here:
